Every bean tells a story.

Ember Roasters was born from a simple obsession: coffee should taste like the place it came from. We travel to origin, build relationships with smallholder farmers, and pay premiums that sustain communities — not just crops. Our roastery in Portland is where science meets craft.

We roast in small batches on a vintage Probat, guided by a team with over forty years of combined experience. Every lot is cupped, profiled, and refined until it sings. We don't chase trends — we chase terroir, clarity, and the kind of sweetness that makes you close your eyes mid-sip.

What makes us different is patience. We age our green coffee in climate-controlled storage. We roast only what ships that week. And we never, ever blend to hide a flaw. If a bean can't stand alone, it doesn't make the cut.

The Founder
Aarvi
Founder & Head Roaster, Ember Roasters

Aarvi founded Ember Roasters in 2019 after a decade of chasing great coffee across four continents. What started as a personal obsession — scribbling tasting notes in dog-eared notebooks at farms in Ethiopia and Colombia — became a mission: to bring the world's most exceptional beans directly to the people who would appreciate them most.

Before Ember, Aarvi trained under two World Barista Championship winners and spent three years as a green coffee buyer, learning to evaluate terroir, processing methods, and the subtle alchemy that separates a memorable cup from a forgettable one. She built the roastery from the ground up — every relationship, every profile, every bag bears her fingerprints.

Today she still travels to origin twice a year, cups every new lot personally, and answers customer emails on Sunday mornings with a fresh brew in hand. Ember is not a brand to her — it is a life's work.

"Coffee at its best is an act of memory — it carries the altitude, the rain, the hands that picked it. My job is just to get out of the way and let it speak."
Our Origins

Eight countries, infinite character

01 — Ethiopia

Yirgacheffe & Sidamo

Floral, tea-like, with bursts of bergamot and stone fruit. The birthplace of coffee delivers complexity that never stops evolving in the cup.

02 — Colombia

Huila & Nariño

Caramel sweetness, balanced acidity, and a velvet body. High-altitude Colombian lots bring the kind of approachable elegance that converts skeptics.

03 — Guatemala

Antigua & Huehuetenango

Volcanic soil and misty highlands produce beans with chocolate depth, spice undertones, and a syrupy finish that lingers beautifully.

04 — Kenya

Nyeri & Kirinyaga

Bold, juicy, electric. Kenyan beans deliver blackcurrant brightness and a wine-like structure that stands up to any brewing method you throw at it.

What our subscribers say

I've subscribed to a dozen roasters over the years. Ember is the first one that made me cancel all the others. The Ethiopian Yirgacheffe they sent last month was genuinely life-changing.

Sarah Lindqvist
Home Barista, Portland

We switched our entire cafe to Ember's wholesale program. The consistency is remarkable — every bag tastes exactly as intended. Our customers notice the difference immediately.

Marco Reyes
Owner, Drift Coffee Bar

The tasting notes are spot-on, the packaging is gorgeous, and it arrives so fresh you can still feel warmth from the roast. This is what coffee subscription should feel like.

Our meticulous process

1

Source

We travel to origin, cup hundreds of lots, and select only the top 2% of beans from farms we know personally and trust deeply.

2

Profile

Each green lot is sample-roasted at multiple profiles. We cup them blind over several days to find the curve that reveals the bean's true character.

3

Roast

We roast in small batches every Tuesday and Thursday. Nothing sits longer than 24 hours before it's in a bag, sealed, and ready to ship.

4

Deliver

Your beans ship same-day in recyclable, valve-sealed packaging. They arrive at peak freshness — ready for their first bloom in your kitchen.
